There’s something about autumn in the Blue Mountains and Collingwood that feels almost magical. The air turns crisp, the trees burst into brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold, and the slower pace of the season invites us to pause and take it all in.
After a busy summer of visitors, cottages, and waterfront days, I love the way fall transforms our community into a haven for cozy adventures and breathtaking scenery.
Hiking Through Fall Colours
One of my favourite things to do this time of year is to head out on a hike. Whether it’s the trails at Scenic Caves, the Georgian Trail, or climbing up to the lookout at Metcalfe Rock, there’s nothing quite like standing at a vantage point and looking out over Georgian Bay surrounded by a sea of fall colour. Even a simple walk along the waterfront trail in Collingwood offers incredible views, especially at sunset when the sky mirrors the fiery leaves.
Savouring Local Flavours
For those who enjoy a bit of indulgence (like me!), autumn is also the perfect time to explore our local food and drink scene. From apple picking at nearby orchards to sipping a spiced cider at one of our local cideries, the season’s harvest is truly celebrated here. I always recommend visiting the Collingwood Farmers’ Market on a Saturday morning—it’s full of fresh produce, homemade treats, and friendly faces.
Experiencing Blue Mountain
If you’re looking for something unique, try a gondola ride up Blue Mountain. The views in October are spectacular, and it’s a fun way to experience the fall foliage from a completely different perspective. Pair it with a stroll through the Village, where you can shop, grab a hot chocolate, or just sit back and people-watch by the fire pits.
Cozy Connections at Home
Of course, one of the best parts of autumn here is how it inspires connection—gathering with friends around a backyard bonfire, enjoying a long Sunday drive through country roads lined with maples, or simply sharing a cozy evening at home. This season always reminds me why I fell in love with this area in the first place.
A Season to Celebrate
So whether you’re a local like me or visiting for the first time, I hope you get outside this October and let yourself be swept up in the beauty of Collingwood and the Blue Mountains in full colour.
It’s a season worth celebrating, and one that never lasts quite long enough—so let’s make the most of it together.
