Summer is in full swing here in beautiful Collingwood, and there’s no better way to embrace the season than by exploring our stunning local beaches and refreshing swimming holes. As a proud resident and real estate professional in this vibrant community, I’m thrilled to share some of my favourite spots where you can soak up the sun, take a dip, and enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty of South Georgian Bay.
Sunset Point Park
Let’s start with a local favourite—Sunset Point Park. Nestled right here in Collingwood, this gem offers picturesque views of the mountain and an inviting stretch of sandy beach. Whether you’re looking to swim, picnic, or simply relax with a good book, Sunset Point has it all. The kids will love the water play area, and the adjacent trails are perfect for a post-swim stroll or bike ride. Don’t forget to stay for the sunset; it’s truly a sight to behold.
Wasaga Beach
A short drive from Collingwood brings you to Wasaga Beach, the world’s longest freshwater beach. Spanning over 14 kilometres, Wasaga Beach offers something for everyone. From family-friendly areas with shallow waters to quieter sections for those seeking a more serene experience, this beach is a summer paradise. The town of Wasaga Beach also hosts numerous events throughout the summer, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
Northwinds Beach
Located just off Highway 26 between Collingwood and Thornbury, Northwinds Beach is a haven for water sports enthusiasts. This beach is perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing. The clear waters and sandy shoreline make it a great spot for swimming and sunbathing as well. Pack a picnic and enjoy the day with family and friends in this location.
Inglis Falls
For those who prefer a more secluded and natural setting, Inglis Falls in Owen Sound is a must-visit. While not a traditional beach, the falls offer a stunning backdrop for a refreshing swim in the river below. The cascading water and lush surroundings create a tranquil environment perfect for a summer adventure. Remember to bring your camera—Inglis Falls is incredibly photogenic!
Christie Beach
Just west of Thornbury, Christie Beach is a quieter alternative to some of the more popular spots. With its calm, shallow waters, it’s ideal for families with young children. The beach is lined with beautiful trees providing ample shade, perfect for those hot summer days. Christie Beach is a great place to unwind, enjoy a picnic, and take in the scenic views of Georgian Bay.
Eugenia Falls
Eugenia Falls, located in the village of Eugenia, offers a unique swimming experience. While the falls themselves are a spectacular sight, the swimming hole downstream provides a refreshing escape from the summer heat. Surrounded by cliffs and forest, this spot feels like a hidden oasis. Be sure to explore the nearby hiking trails for a full day of adventure.
Delphi Point Park
For a blend of rocky shores and fascinating geology, Delphi Point Park is a fantastic destination. The park’s shoreline is perfect for exploring, with unique shale rock formations and fossils to discover. While the beach is rocky, the clear waters of Georgian Bay are perfect for a cool swim. The park also offers camping facilities, making it a great spot for a weekend getaway.
These are just a few of the incredible beaches and swimming holes waiting for you in Collingwood and beyond. As we dive head first into July, I encourage you to take full advantage of our beautiful natural surroundings. Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the area, there’s always something new to discover and enjoy.
Happy summer!
